The Aveeno® heritage

From the beginning the story of AVEENO® has been one of passion for unlocking the power of nature through scientific innovation.

“The betterment of human life can best be accomplished through the use of the principles and procedures of science...indeed, yesterday’s miracles can now be explained by today’s science. And, in turn, today’s science will generate tomorrow’s miracles”.

Albert Musher, AVEENO® Founder, who established the Willma and Albert Musher Chair for the betterment of Life through Science and Technology at Columbia University School of Social Work, 1995.

Named after oats, Avena sativa, the unique story of AVEENO® begun back in 1945 with Sidney and Albert Musher. The two brothers, who were inventers and philanthropists, were driven by a profound curiosity and a belief that century-old remedies hold the promise for human wellbeing. Their experiments with raw cereals in collaboration with the US based dermatology centre, the Mayo Clinic, led to the discovery that when oats were ground into a fine powder and then mixed with water, they were an exceptional emollient with soothing benefits for dryness associated with eczema-prone skin . This marked the birth of the AVEENO® brand!

The Mayo Clinic began using the Aveeno bath treatments to help patients suffering from dry skin associated with conditions such eczema.

Partnering with Health Care Professionals and scientists ever since, the AVEENO® brand, now a dry skin expert has become a pioneer in the development and understanding of Naturally Active Ingredients, driving new product development using the best of nature for the benefit of skincare.
