Very Dry and Irritable Skin
Very dry skin is caused by an impaired barrier lacking in the water, lipids and oils that keep it healthy. The skin feels very tight, irritable and rough and may also start to appear scaly and flaky. Very dry skin can be all over the body or in patches – the hands, back of the knees and scalp are common places
The onset of very dry skin can also be impacted by internal factors like ageing or hormonal changes, as seen in menopausal women, or medical conditions like atopic dermatitis, hypothyroidism, diabetes or malnutrition (vitamin A deficiency). Medications for medical conditions like high blood pressure (such as diuretics), cholesterol-lowering drugs and acne (such as retinoids) can also dry out the skin.
When your skin feels this way, it can also be hypersensitive and easily aggravated by cold, dry weather or certain soaps, detergents and fragrances. Scratching makes it worse, leading to a cycle of itching and scratching that can cause the skin to become inflamed and even infected.

Very dry exposed, chapped skin?
With age, everyone's skin naturally becomes thinner and drier. The sun, wind and other elements we expose our skin to can take their toll on the health of our skin. Excessive dryness can cause the skin to shrink and become brittle, leading to skin appearing chapped.
The best treatment is always prevention. If possible, avoid over-washing. Moisturise several times a day with a thick emollient to replenish the skin’s moisture barrier. Look for ingredients like Colloidal Oatmeal and Glycerin. AVEENO® Skin Relief Nourish & Repair Cica Balm with Prebiotic Triple Oat Complex* + Glycerin intensely moisturises to help repair dry exposed, chapped skin.
